In the anime, Tai is transported to the Digital World with six other children who are selected as 'DigiDestined' to save both worlds. His aggressive and impulsive personality often puts him in danger, but he learns that empathy and compassion are keys to being a successful leader. He holds the Crest of Courage and is the star player on his school's soccer team. (Note: In the V-Tamer 01 manga, Tai is a V-Pet trainer summoned by MagnaAngemon, but he does not encounter Davis, Ryo Akiyama, or Takuya Kanbara, as those characters belong to different series continuities.)

In Their Own Story

Tai first appears in the 1999 film Digimon Adventure before the television series of the same name. In Digimon Adventure 02, he becomes a middle school student and acts as a mentor to the new DigiDestined, passing his goggles to Davis Motomiya. In the series epilogue set in 2027, he becomes a United Nations diplomat for the Digital World. In Digimon Fusion, an eleven-year-old Tai is summoned from his universe to aid the Fusion Fighters. In Digimon Adventure tri., he attends Tsukishima General High School and learns of a virus infecting every Digimon. In Last Evolution Kizuna, he is twenty-two and attending college. In the 2020 reboot, he chooses to remain in the Digital World with Agumon at the end.
